I write about the intersection of business and creativity—what it actually looks like to build, revise, and sustain creative work in a changing marketplace.

Most of what you’ll find here is behind-the-scenes: what I’m working on, what I’m testing, what’s working, what isn’t, and what I’m learning along the way about marketing, audience, and the tools that increasingly shape how creative work is discovered.

Lately, that includes a deep dive into AI, search, and discoverability—not from a hype-driven or fear-based angle, but from the perspective of someone who has spent years making a living as a working writer.

What I’m Exploring Here

On this Substack, I write about:

  • The practical side of creative business

  • Marketing experiments (including what fails)

  • AI-assisted discovery and long-tail search

  • How authors can make their work easier for both readers and machines to understand

  • Speaking, teaching, and presenting on these topics

I’m actively developing talks and workshops on how authors can position their books for modern discovery, and this newsletter is where I think out loud as that work evolves.

Who This Is For

This Substack is for:

  • writers and creatives who care about sustainability, not shortcuts

  • business-minded artists who want clarity instead of jargon

  • anyone curious about how AI is reshaping visibility and recommendation systems

  • readers who enjoy seeing the process, not just the polished result

  • readers who enjoy my books and want to see what goes into creating them

Thanks for being here—and welcome.
